FACTORS AFFECTING IN GROWTH PERFORMANCE AND GREASY FLEECE YIELD IN MAGRA SHEEP UNDER ARID CONDITION OF RAJASTHAN
Journal Title: International Journal of Agriculture Sciences - Year 2017, Vol 9, Issue 15
Abstract
The data for the Present investigation were analyzed from records (1999-2008) of Magra Sheep research flock maintained with CSWRI, ARC, Bikaner Records of 1767 Magra lambs for growth performance and 1533 for greasy fleece yield were analyzed to assess the impact genetic group, period of birth, sex and parity. The overall least-squares means were observed to be 3.04+ 0.019, 14.20 + 0.130, 21.86+ 0.227, 25.26 + 0.261, 27.89 + 0.336 kg at birth, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months of age and 757.82 + 12.318 and 847.30 + 8.859 gm. for greasy fleece yield at clip I and II, respectively. Effects of sire and sex were found highly significantly on all traits studied. The effect of period of birth was highly significantly on all the traits except on body weight at birth and significant on clip I. The parity had highly significant effect on body weight at birth, significant at 3 months of age but non-significant on growth after 3 months of age. Regression of dam’s weight at lambing on all the growth traits and age at shearing on greasy fleece yield had highly significant effect.
