Abstract
In the period of the global transformational changes that are taking place in our society, it becomes apparent that there is a need for extensive and intensive updating of the institution of higher education as one of the key social institutions of society. An important role in choosing a university and specialty is the motivation of a future student. Definition of motives - one of the most important stages in the choice of the university, since it is internal motives determine the direction of choice and determine its strategy. That is why it is necessary study the motives of choosing a specialty and adjust the training motives for their positive impact on the professional formation of students. Taking into account recent events that have taken place in many spheres of Ukrainian society, namely - decline of the economic sphere, problems with forced migrants, change of sentiment population, increase of stress situations. As a result, we have a high level of depression sentiment, therefore it would be advisable to check whether these events affected the motives of the young people, the main actors of change in Ukrainian society, to the university.
