False-positive I-131 Uptakes at Pulmonary Wedge-resection Site and Soft Tissue Lateral to the Femoral Heads in a Patient with Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma
Journal Title: Molecular Imaging and Radionuclide Therapy - Year 2019, Vol 28, Issue 1
Abstract
A hyper-metabolic pulmonary nodule was detected on 18F-FDG PET/CT in a 65-year-old woman who had been followed up for 12 years without any complaints following treatment for papillary thyroid cancer (PTC). Wedge resection was performed to the pulmonary nodule and the pathologic examination revealed PTC metastasis. On the post-therapeutic I-131 scan after radioiodine treatment, focal I-131 uptake was detected at the site of pulmonary wedge resection. At first, this finding was thought to be related to the residual lesion but diagnostic CT demonstrated only focal traction bronchiectasis at that region. In addition, a false-positive I-131 uptake was also detected at the soft tissue just lateral to the femoral heads probably due to inflammation.

Significance of Microalbuminuria in Predicting Silent Myocardial Ischemia in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Using Myocardial Perfusion Imaging
Objectives: In light of increased risk of cardiovascular events and the poor prognosis of coronary artery disease (CAD) in diabetic versus non-diabetic patients and also with respect to the importance of early diagnosis...
Inguinal Endometriosis Visualized on I-131 Whole Body Scan
We present a rare case with inguinal iodine-131 (I-131) uptake on whole body scan. The patient was suffering from a painful right inguinal mass during menstrual period, which was later sonographically and histopathologic...
Utility of FDG PET/CT in the Management of Primary Testicular Lymphoma
Objective: Primary testicular lymphoma (PTL) is a form of extra-nodal lymphoma originating from the testicles. Currently, positron emission tomography (PET) with glucose analogue 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (18F-FDG) is the m...
Unexpected Hepatic Uptake of Tc-99m-MAA in Lung Perfusion Scintigraphy in a Patient with End-stage Renal Disease
Extra-pulmonary accumulation of Tc-99m-macroaggregated albumin (MAA) is described as uptake areas out of the lung in perfusion scintigraphy. If the particles spread throughout the body before reaching the lung via venous...
