FEATURES OF ARTIFICIAL IONOSPHERE TURBULENCE INDUCED BY THE O- AND X-MODE HF HEATING NEAR THE F2-LAYER CRITICAL FREQUENCY
Journal Title: Solar-Terrestrial Physics - Year 2023, Vol 9, Issue 1
Abstract
We present experimental results from the studies of large-scale inhomogeneities along the external magnetic field with increased electron density, electron temperature, and excitation of elongated plasma waves (Langmuir and ion-acoustic), induced by the ordinary (O-mode) and extraordinary (X-mode) HF heating near the F2-layer critical frequency, in the high-latitude ionospheric F-region. The experiments have been carried out at the EISCAT/Heating facility (Tromsø, Norway). Powerful HF radio waves radiated towards the magnetic zenith through a step change in the effective radiated power at frequencies fH near and below the F2-layer critical frequency fₒF2. The EISCAT incoherent scatter radar (930 MHz), co-located with the EISCAT/Heating facility, was utilized for diagnostics of ionospheric modification effects. We calculated the electric field of a powerful HF radio wave near the reflection altitude, taking into account the non-deflective absorption along the propagation path. We determined the conditions for electric field generation and its threshold (minimum) values required for electron density enhancements in a wide altitude range, excitation of Langmuir and ion-acoustic plasma waves under fH~fₒF2 and fH

SIGNS OF ANOMALOUS BEHAVIOR OF THE IONOSPHERE IN 2003–2014 AT F1-LAYER HEIGHTS OVER IRKUTSK
We have detected an anomalous electron density Ne increase in winter months in Irkutsk in some years of the period 2003–2014. This effect was manifested when we compared the experimental values obtained by the Irkutsk io...
ANALYZING SOLAR, COSMIC, AND GEOPHYSICAL EVENTS IN SEPTEMBER 2017 USING SHICRA SB RAS COMPLEX OBSERVATIONS
We report the results of monitoring of cosmic rays and geomagnetic field along 210 magnetic meridians in Yakutia in the first half of September 2017. The energy spectrum of solar cosmic rays during Ground Level Enhanceme...
STUDYING THE DYNAMICS OF ELECTRIC CURRENTS AND POLAR CAPS IN IONOSPHERES OF TWO HEMISPHERES DURING THE AUGUST 17, 2001 GEOMAGNETIC STORM
The magnetogram inversion technique (MIT), developed at ISTP SB RAS more than forty years ago, has been used until recently only in the Northern Hemisphere. In recent years, MIT has been improved and extended to make ins...
MODULATION EFFECT OF MAGNETIC COROTATING TRAP ON 27-DAY COSMIC RAY VARIATION IN NOVEMBER–DECEMBER 2014
We study the 27-day cosmic-ray (CR) intensity variation occurring in November–December 2014, using ground-based measurements from the worldwide network of neutron monitors and GOES-15 satellites. A determining factor in...
DIAMAGNETIC STRUCTURES AS A BASIS OF QUASI-STATIONARY SLOW SOLAR WIND
The results presented in this review reflect the fundamentals of the modern understanding of the nature of the structure of the slow solar wind (SW) along the entire length from the Sun to the Earth's orbit. It is known...
