FEATURES OF FORMATION OF ELECTORAL SYSTEM IN UKRAINE (1991–2014)

Abstract

The article characterizes the main stages of the electoral system in Ukraine, it makes a comparative analysis of the Law of Ukraine “On Election of People’s Deputies of Ukraine” on which the parliament elected in 1994, 1998, 2002, 2006, 2012 and 2014. The article also explains the influence of the electoral system on the forming of the party system and on effective participation of national minorities of Ukraine in the elections. It also analyzes the efficiency of the national electoral system on example of the parliamentary elections. The author analyzes the shortcomings of the existing format of the electoral system, and also proposes the ways of its further improvement to enhance the role of parliament in social and political life of the state.
