Journal Title: Поволжская Археология - Year 2015, Vol 3, Issue 13

Abstract

A part of V.A. Gorodtsov’s archival heritage, containing materials devoted to his activity in the Archaeology sub-department of RSFSR People's Commissariat for Education and in the Archaeological Committee with the Scientific Museum and library section of the State Academic Council, are considered in the article. The documents amply reflect the scientist’s attempts to conduct reforms within the museum and scientific institutions of new Russia. The published report on "Hidden energy of archaeological sites" is one of these documents. It reflects the spirit of the 1920s with its innovative ideas of reforming the culture, education and science. It vividly demonstrates the practical steps made by V.A. Gorodtsov and his colleagues at the State Academic Council to attract the attention of government and society to the problem of archeology significance in cultural and scientific life of the country. In addition, the report reflects little known original philosophical views of one of national archeology founders. The full original text of the report is published in the Appendix.
