FOR MEMORY OF A KUBAN MISSIONARY PRIEST ALEKSY IVLEV (TO THE 170TH ANNIVERSARY OF HIS BIRTH)

Abstract
In the second half of the XIX century, a lot of attention was given to the mission in the Stavropol Diocese. The main field for activities among the Cossack population of Kuban Region were the villages with the Old Believers communities. The fruitfulness of work among those who adhered to the old rites was achieved with the help of the missionary project, which in that period was Edinoverie. Strengthening the parishes of the faith in this case directly depended on the jealousy of the priests who converted to Orthodoxy on the basis of their sincere conviction of the anti-canonical nature of the schism. The article considers the activities of a Kuban missionary – the priest of the village of Voznesenskaya, Aleksy Ivlev, who, under the influence of his relative, realized the need to convert to Orthodoxy en the rights of Edinoverie. After joining, Aleksy was ordained to the priesthood, doing everything in his power to missionary work. The result of many years of activity of Father Aleksy was the accession of about two hundred Old Believers to Orthodoxy, including the Old Believer priest. In this work, archival documents and materials of periodicals have been used, allowing considering the methods and conditions of missionary activity of a priest. The article also contains historical evidence of the tragic death of priest Aleksy Ivlev, that became the result of many years of his pastoral work.
