Foreign bodies in right intermediate bronchus: Case report on early and late diagnosis

Journal Title: Journal of Medical and Scientific Research - Year 2014, Vol 2, Issue 1

Abstract

Foreign body (FB) aspiration is an uncommon problem in adults. About 80 percent of reported cases occur in children under 15 years of age. Foreign body aspiration can be an emergent life-threatening condition, if the aspirated object is large enough to cause complete airway obstruction. We reported 2 cases that clinical suspicion, early diagnosis and removal of foreign body (FB) gives dramatic clinical improvement as happened in the first patient, where as lack of suspicion and delayed diagnosis have led to lobectomy in second patient. This could have been prevented if it is identified early in child hood itself.
