FORESTS AND THEIR NEIGHBORING AREAS CHARACTERIZED BY SLOWER DEGRADATION OF LANDSCAPE CAUSED BY OUTDOOR ADVERTISING

Journal Title: Zarządzanie ochroną przyrody w lasach - Year 2014, Vol 0, Issue 1

Abstract

The authors’ purpose was to identify an influence of advertising on a degradation of the areas of high landscape values. The research was made on both sides of The Central Western Carpathians: Polish and Slovakian. During this process, the cataloguing of advertisements on areas extending along the public highway, has been made. The observations were made on 280 kilometres of roads making a circle around the Tatra Mountains and 170 kilometres of a regional and local roads covering the area among them. Along these roads, 30 sections were created: each with 5 kilometres circle around the cataloguing point (divided into 10 sections of 500 metres each). Those sections were evenly balanced and created according to a class of road and its development of land.. Advertisements have been catalogued into one of three groups: big (with area > 9 m2), medium (2-9 m2) and small (< 2 m2). The results of the cataloguing clearly showed the diversity in an arrangement of advertisements on the area of the research. It is observed at the regional level but also considering the class of the road. A greater number appear in the belt road in Poland than in Slovakia. Its scenery has deteriorated significantly. On the Polish side 1 824 advertising carriers were catalogued while on the Slovakia - 6. However, on Slovakia the deployment of the carriers is regular, but in Poland is various. The accumulation of advertisements exist on the busiest road between Nowy Targ and Zakopane. On every of 3 marked sections with elements for measurement 923 advertisements were catalogued (61 adverts/1kilometer of the road). On the rest of sections the average amount- 15 adverts/1 kilometre of the road. In both countries, the number of the adverts grows in the suburbs. What is more, the greater accumulation exists in the vicinity of shopping centres, gas stations and driveways. In Slovakia the greater number of adverts exists in a mountain passes. The lowest number exist in the wooded area and in small villages.
