FORMATION OF CATALOGUES OF THE LIBRARY OF THE NOVOROSSIYSK UNIVERSITY

Abstract
This year executed 200 years to Scientific library of the Odessa I. I. Mechnikov National University. On May 1, 1865 in Odessa based on the Richelieu Lyceum, the Imperial Novorossiysk University was opened. In the same year, the lyceum library became the property of Novorossiysk University. In article considered process of formation of catalogs of library of the Novorossiysk University from hand-written to printing during the period from 1865 to 1920. In work used materials from Protocols of the Novorossiysk University, which give a clear idea of history of formation of catalogs in library. In the early 1870s, after long discussions and experiments, new principles were adopted for placing books in the book depository; they corresponded to the books in the systematic catalog. The books were arranged according to the departments that corresponded to the location of the sciences in the faculties and departments. The book fund was divided into 276 departments, everyone began with No. 1. To conduct business in the library, the Council of the University elected Library Commissions, which monitored the state of the book fund, developed rules for using the library, created unique system of arrangement of books, having laid the foundation of the systematic catalog, which with some changes remained up to now.
