Abstract

The article touches upon the topic of developing environmental culture in young people through learning a foreign language. It also provides an example of studying environmental issues in English classes, and analyzes all the advantages and disadvantages of this method. Environmental culture is a system of values, knowledge, norms, and behavioral practices aimed at respecting nature, preserving the environment, and sustainable interaction with ecosystems. It embodies a conscious human desire to balance their needs and the needs of nature. Environmental culture plays an important and multifaceted role in modern society and our attitude to the environment. Environmental culture is undoubtedly the most important core of modern society. It does not simply call for caring for nature, it sets an imperative task for each of us – to be responsible for the future of our planet. Nowadays, environmental problems have become more acute than ever: climate change, destruction of ecosystems, and environmental disasters – all this requires active intervention and global efforts. The introduction of environmental values and principles into everyday life is becoming an urgent need. This means careful use of natural resources, reducing the negative impact on the environment and supporting sustainable consumption standards. Ecological culture inspires the creation of a healthy, clean and sustainable environment for us and future generations. The article analyzes the method of forming ecological culture in the younger generation through learning a foreign language. A foreign language as an effective factor in the socio-economic, scientific, technical and general cultural progress of society and as a means of communication has potential in terms of environmental education. Consideration of environmental problems, issues of interaction between man and nature, nature conservation and resource conservation when studying a foreign language increases students’ interest, expands their vocabulary, and encourages active communication. Familiarization with environmental problems abroad allows us to draw a parallel with similar situations in our country, helps to see certain achievements of each country in the field of preserving and maintaining ecological balance.
