Formation of Ukrainian National Identity Through the Prism of I.Franko’s Political Essays

Abstract
The article analyses the Ivan Franko’s attitude to the process of Ukrainian national identity development, and his criticism of the Ukrainian nation mentality. Attention is paid to European orientation of Ukraine, which the journalist considered to be the key to Ukrainians’ national identity.
