Formulation and evaluation of alginate based mesalazine matrix tablets for intestinal delivery
Journal Title: Journal of Research in Biology - Year 2012, Vol 2, Issue 7
Abstract
The aim of this study is to develop alginate based mesalazine matrix tablets for intestinal delivery. Sodium alginate is a biocompatible natural polymer, with pH sensitive gel forming ability. Matrix tablets of Mesalazine were prepared using Sodium alginate with three different concentrations by wet granulation method. The granules were evaluated for angle of repose, bulk density, tapped density, compressibility index and Hausners ratio. The tablets were subjected to weight variation, hardness, friability and drug content test. The in vitro release characteristics of mesalazine from alginate tablets were compared with those of the commercial product Asacol. The cumulative amount of released drug of S3 formulation was found to be almost the same as the of commercial product in acidic and basic media. The release profiles were affected by variable concentrations of Sodium alginate and hence, the release of Mesalazine was prevented in upper GIT with increase in the proportion of Sodium alginate. Mesalazine-alginate matrix tablet formulations can deliver drug to the small and large intestine. Thus, it may be a promising system for the treatment of Ulcerative colitis

This paper presents a continuum of triangulation designs ranging from Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA), surveys, parasitological to satellite data for a holistic approach to a research on trypanosomiasis – a disease a...
Effect of the use of single dose of prostaglandin F2α in cows after one month of calving, to determine the heat induction in the local cows of suburban area of N'Djamena, Chad
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of the systematic use of a single amount of the prostaglandin F2α after one month of calving on the renewal of sexual activity of beef at Chad. (Sixty five (65) cows...
The effect of microgravity on cell death, cell growth and cell cycle on breast cancer patients
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in different societies. Because life is constructed evolutionary on the gravity of ‘g’, removed gravity as a variable can lead to clarify many biologic questions. Today...
Notes on the occurrence of Porpita porpita (Blue button) from Pulicat Lagoon
We spotted the presence of blue buttons washed ashore during the month of December 2013 in Pulicat lagoon. These rare sited organisms were observed during our regular faunal field visit along the Pulicat lagoon
