Formulation and evaluation of matrix floating tablets of Norfloxacin and Tinidazole combination
Journal Title: Indian Journal of Research in Pharmacy and Biotechnology - Year 2017, Vol 5, Issue 2
Abstract
Floating drug delivery systems have shown to be of better significance in controlling release rate for drugs having site specific absorption. The present study was an attempt to develop floating tablets Tinidazole and Norfloxacin which on oral administration prolongs its gastric residence time thereby increasing bioavailability, diminishing side effects and enhanced patient compliance. Norfloxacin an oral antibiotic and Tinidazole an oral antiprotozoal having narrow absorption window in the upper and lower part of gastrointestinal tract, was formulated as floating matrix tablet using gas generating agent sodium bicarbonate and hydrophilic polymer Hydroxy propyl methyl cellulose by wet granulation technique. These Studies on dissolution methods showed, the modified dissolution method as a better alternative to conventional method as it mimics the physiological conditions existing in gastrointestinal tract. Hence the objective of present study is to formulate Norfloxacin and Tinidazole floating tablets using swellable polymers.
