Abstract
The main purpose of our paper is to consider four first articles dealing with the problem of homonymy, or phenomenon of identity forms with the different unrelated meanings. This phenomenon has long been known, but its scientific comprehension began in the Soviet linguistics only in the twentieth century from the works of L. Bolkhovskij „Из жизни oмонимов” (1928),”De l’homonymie dans les langues slaves” (1928), S. Karcevskij „Du dualisme asymétrique du signe linguistique” (1929) and B. Trnka „Bemerkungen zur Homonymie” (1931). Analysis of these articles by descriptive and comparative methods show that L. Bolakhovskij, S. Karcevskij and B. Trnka have founded the study and identified the main areas of investigation the homonyms. Also the detailed analysis answers the question why homonym sand homonymy was investigated exactly in such way in twentieth century. And the clear understanding of the way of studies may be important for the purposes of lexicology, especially for learning course in higher school.
