FREQUENCY OF RISK FACTORS OF STROKE IN PATIENTS PRESENTING TO PUBLIC SECTOR HOSPITALS OF LAHORE

Abstract
Stroke also called as Cerebrovascular accident is a syndrome of rapid onset of cerebral deficit (usually focal) lasting >24 h or leading to death, with no cause apparent other than a vascular one. It is currently the third leading cause of death worldwide. It is also the first leading cause of disability globally. Objective: To find out the frequency of various risk factors of stroke in patients presenting to Medical and Neurology wards of various public sector hospitals of Lahore. Study Design: Analytical Cross sectional study. Study Place: Medical and Neurology wards of public sector hospitals of Lahore. Study Duration: 4 months (May 2014 to August 2014). Subjects and Methods: A Cross-sectional study was conducted in various public sector hospitals of Lahore. A total of hundred subjects were recruited in the study. Selection was made on laid down criteria, after taking informed consent. Interviews were conducted through a pretested questionnaire. Data was collected, compiled and analyzed through SPSS.
