Frequency of selected skin pigmentation defects in women aged 40 to 75 years, depending on their age and socio-economic status

Abstract
The aim of the study is to determine the prevalence of 5 selected pigmentation defects in women, depending on their age, educational status and financial situation. The research material was collected by use of survey and includes 120 women aged 40 to 75 years, students at the University of the Third Age PWSZ AS in Walbrzych. It has been found that the most frequently pigmentation defect was a discolouration resulting from phototoxic reactions (27.5%), followed by freckles (23.0%), melasma (21.0%), lentigo (19.0%) and vitiligo (9.5%). A larger number of pigmentation defects was observed in elder women, presenting lower education level and financial status.
