Freshwater Cladophora glomerata as a new potential cosmetic raw material

Journal Title: CHEMIK nauka-technika-rynek - Year 2015, Vol 69, Issue 8

Abstract

Currently, marine algae and their extracts are one of the most commonly used natural cosmetic raw materials due to the presence of many various biologically active compounds in their thallus. However, the freshwater algae are rare object of studies and almost they do not occur on the cosmetic market. It turns out, that the freshwater green macroalgae of the species Cladophora glomerata are a rich source of macro- and microelements, as well as bioactive substances: fatty acids, steroids, carotenoids, polyphenols, terpenoids, carbohydrates, tannins and vitamins. The presence of this substances determines a wide range of biological activity and a potential application of the freshwater Cladophora glomerata in cosmetology
