Journal Title: The Journal of International Social Research - Year 2016, Vol 9, Issue 43
Abstract
The processes of formation by local people of spatial areas specific to themselves with a view to continuing their lives in Turkey and in various parts of the world have taken place around the axis of “environment-location-human” in the grueling journey of the history. The traditional way of life, constructive order of locations and cultural relationship networks enveloping the social fabric in rural settlements came into existence around the codes of the consensus in which common life was shaped. Within this context, “rural settlements”, corresponding to history of humanity in terms of their roots and being one of the locations in which sheltering and/or the desire to settle in a place came into existence, may continue their characteristic of being the lodestar to the future on an uninterrupted basis. With reference to the pluralism of socio-historical conditions, “settlement areas” and “building production processes” created within the scope of the specific values of every culture have come into existence in the dimension of different patterns in the extent of the time. Within this context, the common values shared in the tendency of rural architecture created over the geography of our land (Suruç-Urfa) and the geography of a distant land (Ireland) and history have been able to reach our day despite the fact that they were exposed to change, transformation and destruction. Dealt with over the geographies of two different cultures, this study will be the story of the conclusion(s) coming into existence in location, time and social transformations as a consequence of the value(s) attributed to rural architecture.
