FROM “THE FOREIGN LANGUAGE TRAINING” TO “THE INTERCULTURAL FOREIGN LANGUAGE EDUCATION”: A CENTURY HISTORY OF LEARNING OBJECTIVES (1917 – 2017)

Abstract

The article reflects the results of the review and analysis of the state documents and publications of native and foreign scientists who have studied and continue to investigate the problem of teaching foreign languages in secondary schools. The review is based on such periodization: 1917-1929, 1930-1940, 1941-1960, 1961-1990, 1991-2016, 2017. According to each of these historical periods, the learning objectives review and analysis have been carried out and their evolution has been shown. Particular attention is paid to the analysis of the foreign language curricula 2017, developed in accordance with the state document "Conceptual framework for reforming the secondary school." It is concluded that the goals of teaching foreign languages formulated in the curricula do not meet international requirements and need to be improved.
