Functional Outcome of Surgical Management of AO Type-C Fractures of Distal Femur Treated with Distal Femoral Locking Platesusing Swashbuckler Approach
Journal Title: Journal of Orthopaedic Science and Research - Year 2021, Vol 2, Issue 2
Abstract
Background: Orthopaedic injuries near a joint are often disabling with residual deficits. Distal femur fractures are one of such challenging injuries for orthopedic surgeons, due to their high complication rate. Use of swashbuckler approach while fixing such fractures with Distal Femoral Locking Plate (DFLP) bestows better outcome with lesser complications. Materials and Methods: 30 patients with AO Type C fractures of distal femur were treated with DFLP using Swashbuckler Approach. Cases were followed for up to 12 months post operativelyand evaluated by the NEER’S knee Score. Results: Mean time of fracture union was17.35 weeks (range 12-20 weeks). Average duration of surgery was 88.4 minutes and mean Neer’s score was 80.76. Conclusion: Swashbuckler approach is a good alternative to other classical approaches. Use of DFLP in type C distal femur fractures with swashbuckler approach may provide excellent results.

Recovery of Hip Muscle Strength after Rotational Acetabular Osteotomy Using the Combined Approach
Background: Either a combined approach or a transtrochanteric approach, performed with the patient in the lateral decubitus position, is used in Rotational Acetabular Osteotomy (RAO) to treat symptomatic hip dysplasia....
Our Experience in Meniscus Tears and Differences in Sport Recovery between Medial and Lateral Partial Meniscectomy in Young Athlete
Meniscus tears are the most frequent knee injuries. Menisci provide joint stability and local pressure distribution. A meniscus injury contributes to the early development of osteoarthritis. The aim of our study is to...
Outcomes of a Novel Modular Porous Acetabular Shell in Revision Total Hip Arthroplasty
Background: Modular porous acetabular shells were developed for use in revision Total Hip Arthroplasty (rTHA) where severe bone loss may impede implant fixation and osteointegration. This study reports one- and two-year...
The Utility of 3-Dimensional Printing for Preoperative Plate Templating in Clavicular Fixation: A Cadaveric Study
Objectives: To investigate the effectiveness and reliability of 3-Dimensional (3D) printed models of the contralateral, unaffected clavicle to serve as templates of the affected side for preoperative planning. Method...
A Novel Bone Void Filler for Use in Prosthetic Joint Infections
Bone grafts and Bone Void Fillers (BVF) have multiple applications in total joint reconstruction surgeries. However, despite their widespread use, they are contraindicated in Prosthetic Joint Infections (PJI). A BVF devi...
