Abstract
One of the key factors crucial for making enterprises and economies competitive is being innovative. Podkarpackie voivodeship, which has a rural-industrial profile, is developing rapidly, gaining on importance in Poland at the same time. However, the economical development of the region still diverges from that represented by other high developed regions. Accession of Poland to the European Union has shown how significant the differences between different regions really are. Development subsidies granted by the European Union help to finance all the necessary investment on local and state level, which is essential for further development of our region. Furthermore, they help in development of local enterprises, making them more competitive and thus stimulating the region's economy.
