Fungal infections of the skin in materials from patients diagnosed in the Department of Microbiology in years 2000-2010

Abstract
Introduction. Despite continuous improvement in identifying and treatment of superficial mycosis infections they still constitute serious therapeutic and social problem.Aim. Summary and analysis of showing results from clinical materials extracted of skin alterations from patients examined in Mycosis Laboratory.Material and methods. Results of mycosis tests from 2000-2010 of Mycosis Laboratory in Microbiological Department, Warsaw, have been analyzed. Research included 2024 patients guided by dermatologists from SPZOZ for higher education schools of “Palma” Clinic or guided by other specialists from Mazowieckie province with mycosis suspicion. In general 2863 samples taken.Results. From overall 1027 isolated fungus strains in 783 (76.4%) dermatophytosis have been separated, in 196 (19.1%) fungus Candida, in 48 (4.7%) mildew fungus.Conclusions. Dermatophytosis was most common etiological factor of mycosis, dominated localization – toe nails. Cinical and laboratory mycosis tests should be fundamental for recognition of skin mycosis and its products.
