Gastrointestinal Pathology in Children with Obesity

Abstract

The incidence and structure of the digestive pathology have been investigated in 120 children with overweight and obesity aged 10–17 years. All children underwent clinical, laboratory and instrumental examination, measurement of height, body weight, waist and thigh circumferences by the standard method. Digestive pathology was detected in 65.8 % of children with overweight and obesity. In children with overweight, functional gastrointestinal disorders dominated, and ulcerative and mndestructive lesions of the mucous membrane of the gastrointestinal tract, cholelithiasis and chronic bowel diseases were almost not detected. 54 % of children with obesity had various chronic digestive diseases, with a prevalence of diseases of gastroduodenal area, and 46 % of children had functional gastrointestinal disorders with a preponderance of biliary lesions (20 %) over functional gastrointestinal disorders (13 %). Analysis of complaints in children with overweight and obesity showed their variety, but a pain, dyspeptic signs and symptoms of autonomic dysfunction were more common.
