Geleneksel ve Tamamlayıcı Tıp Uygulamalarında Fitoterapinin Yeri
Journal Title: Eurasian Journal of Family Medicine - Year 2018, Vol 7, Issue 3
Abstract
Nowadays, phytotherapy is the most commonly used method in Traditional and Complementary Medicine applications. The history of phytotherapy, which can be simply defined as the use of plants in the prevention or treatment of diseases, dates back before Christ. Various compounds in plants also cause some beneficial effects in humans. Due to these effects, phytotherapy is widely used in the treatment of various diseases in every population and age group. But although various regulations have been made in Turkey and around the world, plants are still used without supervision. As a result of this uncontrolled use, serious side effects and even toxicity can occur, especially in combination with drugs or in the simultaneous use of more than one plant. Sometimes patients do not say that they use medicinal plants, even if the physician questioned. Moreover, although medicinal plants are frequently used by both patients and physicians, physicians and pharmacologists do not know enough about the effects and side effects of herbal products. Therefore, information and support resources related to phytotherapy should be health professionals who have received the necessary training and have developed themselves in this area.
