GENDER ASYMMETRIES OF RURAL ECONOMY

Abstract

Purpose. The aim of the article is to identification of essence of gender asymmetries and their depth in rural economy system. Methodology of research. A set of principles and approaches to studying theoretical and methodological bases and practical preconditions for the existence of gender asymmetries in rural economy and methods like comparative analysis – to identify the importance of women in the process of rural households management; analysis and synthesis – to identify the nature of rural women’s problems concerning employment, control over resources, participation in decision-making etc.; synthesis – in determining the factor, than constrain overcoming gender asymmetries in rural development processes; statistical and graphical methods – for economic and mathematical reasoning of research conclusions. Findings. It was established that the peculiarities of rural development institutional environment contribute to maintaining the prevailing gender regime in the rural economy and society and created gender asymmetries. It is determined that a critical analysis of rural economy parameters lets to underline the existence of gender asymmetries at macro-, meso- and micro- levels of the system, providing insufficient use of socio-economic potential of rural women because of their uninclusion into management decisions, gender segregation of labour and pay gap. Originality. Scientific novelty of the research results is identifying the indicators of gender asymmetries of rural economies as opened socio-economic system, functioning to achieve rural population welfare. Practical value. Suggested gender-sensitive indicators for rural economy analysis and established trends of their changes under conditions of agrarian transformation of the national economy.
