Geochemical distribution of selected trace elements in the soil-plant system from Mănăila mining area, Romania
Journal Title: Analele stiintifice ale Universitatii "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" din Iasi - seria Geologie - Year 2015, Vol 61, Issue 1
Abstract
This study presents the geochemical distribution of several trace elements (TE) (Ni, Cu, Zn, As, Pb) in a soil-plant system, taking into account the lingonberry, a shrub most widely spread around the Mănăila mining region in Suceava County. A number of 34 samples (soil and the plant above), collected arround the open pit, was prepared for the analysis of soils – using EDXRF method and separated plant organs (roots, leaves, fruits) – using ICP-MS, after HNO3 microwave digestion. Compared with Romanian legislative values, the soil from the surroundings of the Mănăila open pit present contents for Ni and Zn within the normal values; Cu ranges between normal and alert threshold, while As and Pb exceed the alert threshold. The geo-accumulation index (Igeo) average values point out to a moderate contamination with As, Pb and Cu and support a higher potential toxicity risk for these elements. Based on the bioconcentration factor (BCF), the lingonberry behaves as an indicator for Cu and Zn and as an excluder for Ni, As and Pb. The transfer factor (TF) values show an accumulation at the aboveground plant parts for Ni and Cu.

Early Cretaceous Foraminifera, Algal Nodules and Calpionellids from the Lapoş Valley, Bicaz Gorges (Eastern Carpathians, Romania)
The Early Cretaceous (Neocomian) carbonate deposits of the Transylvanian carbonate Platform (Patrulius et al., 1976) are well-developed, with a nearly complete geological section along the Lapoş Valley, Bicaz Gorges (Eas...
GIS database for mineral resources: case study – map of mineral resources from Romania at the 1: 500.000 scale (after Borcoș M., Udubașa G., Săndulescu M., Lupu M., Tudor G., Găbudeanu B.)
The updating of the map of the mineral resources from Romania by a team of researchers led to the need for a GIS database. This database contains information on the sites with mineral resources, geological data describin...
The palynology and palynofacies of the Miocene deposits from the Subcarpathian Nappe (Ciritei Quarry, Eastern Carpathians)
The present study focuses on the palynological assemblage and palynofacies of the Upper Burdigalian – Lower Badenian deposits from the Subcarpathian Nappe. The assemblage of aquatic microfossils indicates an inner neriti...
The influence of the thrust over the evolution of the thermal regime of the Vrancea Nappe source rocks (Eastern Carpathians). A 1D simulation of the Șipoteni oil structure (Romania)
The aim of the present paper is to highlight the variations in thermal regime caused by the thrusting of the Tarcău Nappe over the Vrancea Nappe during the New Styrian tectono-genesis. The onedimensional analysis was car...
Lithological and Palynostratigraphical correlations between Silurian Deposits from the Dnestr Basin (Podolia) and the North of the Moldavian Platform (Romania)
The Silurian deposits from the Podolia Region outcrop very clearly along the valley of the Dnestr river and its left-side tributaries. Some of the outcrop deposits are represented by the Malynivtsy Formation (Middle-Uppe...
