Geomagnetic pulsations in 1–4 mHz frequency range (Pc5/Pi3) in the magnetotail at different levels of disturbances in the interplanetary medium
Journal Title: Solar-Terrestrial Physics - Year 2022, Vol 8, Issue 2
Abstract
In this paper, we study parameters of geomagnetic pulsations in the 1–4 mHz frequency range (Pc5/Pi3) in the magnetotail, utilizing data obtained by Cluster satellites at different levels of fluctuations in the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) and the solar wind dynamic pressure in 2016. Particular attention is given to the conditions of “zero” disturbance when amplitudes of fluctuations in the interplanetary medium are smaller compared to their typical values. Both under quiet and disturbed conditions, waves of different spatial scales are recorded, with the occurrence rate of large-scale waves increasing under undisturbed conditions. Amplitudes of the large-scale waves occurring in the magnetotail under low intensity of fluctuations outside the magnetosphere are from few tenths to a few nanoteslas (nT), and their power is approximately equal in longitudinal and transverse components. Presumably, these waves are magnetotail eigen-modes.

ANALYZING EXISTING APPLIED MODELS OF THE IONOSPHERE FOR CALCULATING RADIO WAVE PROPAGATION AND POSSIBILITY OF THEIR USE FOR RADAR SYSTEMS. I. CLASSIFICATION OF APPLIED MODELS AND THE MAIN REQUIREMENTS IMPOSED ON THEM FOR RADAR AIDS
We review modern HF–X band radars covering over-the-horizon problems. The ionosphere significantly affects wave propagation in all the bands. We describe available correction techniques, which use additional evidence on...
QUASI-PERIODIC PULSATIONS IN SOLAR AND STELLAR FLARES. REVIEW
This paper provides an overview of the state-of-the-art studies of oscillatory processes in solar and stellar flares, based on modern observational data from ground-based and space-borne instruments with high temporal, s...
RETROSPECTIVE ANALYSIS OF LONG-TERM REGIONAL FEATURES OF THE DYNAMIC REGIME OF THE IONOSPHERE OVER THE SOUTH OF EASTERN SIBERIA
We have carried out a statistical analysis of a huge array of archival experimental data on the dynamic regime of the ionosphere over Irkutsk, obtained by a radiophysical spaced-receiver method with a small base of a rad...
SOLAR SPECTROPOLARIMETER FOR SPACE WEATHER FORECAST
We propose a project of the meter wavelength range solar spectropolarimeter designed for a ground-based network developing for space weather forecast. The Software-Defined Radio (SDR) solution is chosen to meet such inst...
IMPACT OF TYPHOON VONGFONG 2014 ON THE IONOSPHERE AND GEOMAGNETIC FIELD ACCORDING TO SWARM SATELLITE DATA: 1. WAVE DISTURBANCES OF IONOSPHERIC PLASMA
The article considers the influence of large atmospheric processes on the ionosphere by the example of tropical typhoon Vongfong 2014. We use data obtained from three SWARM satellite missions (450–500 km altitude). We di...
