Geomorphic effects of European beaver Castor fiber activity in the upper valley of San River
Journal Title: Roczniki Bieszczadzkie - Year 2011, Vol 19, Issue 1
Abstract
Reintroduction of European beaver Castor fiber in 1993 was carried out in order to accelerate the process of renaturalisation of areas previously degraded by the activity of the “Igloopol” state farm. During several years beavers clearly marked their presence by creating numerous dams and ponds. Reappearance of beavers in environmentally deteriorated areas led to hydrological and geomorphologic changes. The aim of this study is to determine the rate and nature of changes in structure of mountain stream channels as a result of beaver activity.
