Journal Title: Поволжская Археология - Year 2015, Vol 3, Issue 13
Abstract
The results of 2014 geophysical investigations in the territory of the Bolgar State Historical and Architectural Museum-Reserve are reviewed in the article. The territory is one of UNESCO protected sites.. The investigations were aimed at detecting and localizing archaeological objects remains (houses, mausoleums, kilns, etc.). The set of works included a wide range of geophysical investigations: magnetometry, gravimetry, electrical prospecting and georadar. Due to its highly informative character and efficiency, magnetometry was the basic method of work. Georadar survey, gravity and electrical prospecting were used for nonmagnetic objects localization. The major search objects were building brick bases and walls, fired ceramics concentrations, remains of different-purpose furnaces, etc. As a result, a number of objects were identified differing in their properties and purposes: furnaces, mausoleum bases, of dwelling houses remains. In the process of geophysical investigations, field investigation techniques have been refined and optimized.
