Journal Title: The Indian Practitioner - Year 2014, Vol 67, Issue 1

Abstract

Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) is a common complication with increasing prevalence, to an extent due to lowered cut offs for diagnosis in addition to changing lifestyle. However there is a lot of variations in the screening criteria advocated and widespread screening is still far from complete. Also due to variable healthcare systems across the country there are lots of difficulties in choosing the practical and optimal method for screening across various healthcare systems catering to various strata of society. The current article focuses on discrepancies in various criteria proposed as well as future directions and tries to find out practical solutions for the screening protocol dilemmas.
