Giant Solitary Fibrous Tumor of Pleura with Doege - Potter Syndrome
Journal Title: Stanley Medical Journal - Year 2016, Vol 3, Issue 4
Abstract
Giant Solitary Fibrous Tumor (GSFT) of pleura is a rare but commonly occurring benign tumor of pleura. Its association with Doege-Potter Syndrome (DPS), a paraneoplatic syndrome with hypoglycemic attacks is still rare and only few cases are reported in the world (3-4%). Very few cases reported in India so far (<65 cases). We present here a 48 years old man having pan-digital clubbing, a huge mass in the right hemi thorax associated with episodes of hypoglycemia, investigated and diagnosed as a case of GSFT of pleura with DPS. The entire pleural mass excised in-Toto by right thoracotomy and histopathology confirmed the diagnosis. Follow-up image studies show no evidence of recurrence at 6 months and 1 year. This is one such rare case of DPS associated with GSFT of pleura presented in India.
