GLOBALIZATION AND FINANCE: FOUR PARADIGMATIC VIEWS
Journal Title: Journal of Globalization Studies - Year 2010, Vol 1, Issue 2
Abstract
Any adequate analysis of globalization and finance necessarily requires fun-damental understanding of the worldviews underlying the views expressed with respect to globalization and finance. This paper is based on the premise that any worldview can be associated with one of the four basic paradigms: functionalist, interpretive, radical humanist, and radical structuralist. It argues that any view expressed with respect to globalization and finance is based on one of the four paradigms or worldviews. This paper takes the case of globalization and finance and discusses such a relationship from four different viewpoints, each of which corresponds to one of the four broad worldviews. The paper emphasizes that the four views expressed are equally scientific and informative; they look at the phenomenon from their certain paradigmatic viewpoint; and together they provide a more balanced understanding of the phenomenon under consideration
