Goethe’s idea of the Pedagogical Province as an expression of a modern way of thinking about the education of the individual and society

Abstract
The aim of this article is an attempt to reconstruct the genesis and the essence of the ideal of education (Bildung) which determines the form of literary image of the Pedagogical Province enclosed in novel entitled Wilhelm Meister Wanderjahre, and then to extract the premises and indications that decides of modern character of Goethe’s view on education. In connection with that the first part of my paper is focused as well on the meaning of the term Bildung in Wilhelm Meister as on the main assumptions of the Goethe’s ideal of education. In the second part of this work I try to examine the structure and principles of Pedagogical Province considered as an utopian educational institution in Wilhelm Meister Wanderjahre. The conclusion was dedicated to the interpretation of main features of Goethe’s ideal Bildung treating them simultaneously as the characteristic features of the modern way of thinking on education. <br/><br/>
