GOLD-BEARING DEPOSITS OF THE KRASZÓWKA STREAM (KACZAWSKIE FOOTHILLS)

Journal Title: Biuletyn Państwowego Instytutu Geologicznego - Year 2010, Vol 439, Issue 439

Abstract

Samples from alluvia of the Kraszówka Stream (Kaczawskie Foothills) were subjected to petrographic analysis. After this research, gold-bearing deposits of the Holocene Kraszówka alluvia have been diagnosed. Gold occurrence was reported all along the Kraszówka Stream, but its large concentration has been localized by the author within the middle part of the stream. Gold has been identifiedwithin 18 of 25 samples collected. Most of gold grains take the foliate-plate and cementation-popular forms and show various types of mechanical deformation. Palaeogene “white” quartz gravels and gold-bearing glaciofluvial sands of the South Polish Glaciations are probably the main source of placer gold. Chemical processes of gold dissolving and reprecipitation took an important part in the origin of placer gold, leading to the formation of so-called “new” gold. In the light of gold-placer renewable theory, there is a good chance to identify zones of economic placer gold concentration in alluvia of the Kraszówka Valley.
