GRAVESTONES ON KASTAMONU HONSALAR MOSQUE

Abstract
In Kastamonu Honsalar Mosque Graveyard, total 14 graves that have been able to reach to the present steadyingly are available. All of these graves are included to open cist grave group which are considered as cist graves (symbolic sarchophagus). One of the grave structures handled is woman’s grave and the other 10 are man’s graves. Of these, 3 grave structures head and foot stones of which have been renewed are included to the scope of the study. The number of head and foot stones that we studied in our research is 20. 11 of those are head stones and 9 are foot stones. On the grave stones we studied and on which date is available, the oldest dated sample is A.D. 1800 and the most recent is 1880. The stones that are rife in the area and with different structures, are used on the grave stones, consisting our research subject, while as processing method was ground craving technique. As for the ornament composition; vitis, tulip, wild flower, curling branches and motifs with abstract leaves herbal characters are used.
