Journal Title: International Journal of Contemporary Tourism Research - Year 2017, Vol 1, Issue 1

Abstract

ABSTRACT In recent years, it is observed that hotel companies are paying attention to offering halal products and services for Muslims with high religious sensitivity. Through halal hotel certification, established to standardize products and services in accordance with religious orders for Muslims, the product and service standards of the hotels which are headed for this market are documented. It is known that the hotels which fulfill the requirements for receiving the Halal hotel certificate are preferred by Muslims with high religious sensitivity. Halal hotel certifications in our country are provided by the Association of Food and Supply Material Inspection and Certification Studies (GIMDES) and ADL Documentation and Consultancy Services. The purpose of this study is to contribute to the knowledge accumulation in the halal hotel and certification. In the study, a literature search based on the examination of the secondary data is applied. The concepts related to halal hotel and halal hotel certifications are discussed, while the standards of institutions that issue halal hotel certification in Turkey are examined. This research is important in terms that it provides detailed information about what standards are prepared for halal hotel certification in our country and makes evaluations for the sector.
