HEALTH LITERACY AND MEDIA

Journal Title: ESTÜDAM Halk Sağlığı Dergisi - Year 2017, Vol 2, Issue 2

Abstract

Health literacy is a concept defined within the framework of the concept of health promotion. The World Health Organization defines health literacy as cognitive and social skills that define the essential motivation for reaching, understanding and using health information in order to improve the health of individuals and maintain good health, beyond the basic skills necessary for reading and understanding health information. "Media", which comes into our language from "mass media" in English, is mostly used for written and visual broadcast media. Utilization of the media in finding effective ways of communicating about health is increasingly gaining importance. The media is used to communicate with a large number of people. Health literacy and the media are becoming increasingly important as a focus and an emphasis.
