HEPATO-SAFETY AND ANTI-ANAEMIC EFFICACY OF METHANOLIC LEAVES EXTRACTS OF ALCHORNEA CORDIFOLIA ON LABORATORY ANIMALS WITH ACETAMINOPHEN POISONING.

Journal Title: WORLD JOURNAL PHARMACY AND PHARMACEUTICAL SCIENCE - Year 2019, Vol 8, Issue 9

Abstract

Hepato-safety and anti-anaemic assay of Alchornea cordifolia methanolic leaves extracts was carried out on laboratory animals in which paracetamol (oral dose, 1 g/kg /body weight) was used to induce acetaminophen poisoning and anaemia. The animals were orogastrically fed with varied concentration of the extracts. The activities of serum enzyme biomarkers of the experimental animals when treated with the extracts (500-2000 mg/kg) are dose dependent and it showed that A. cordifolia ia a potent source of hepato-safety drug and with no significant difference (P< 0.05) when compared with the positive control. The results of the heamathological profile of the anaemic-indused laboratory animals compared with the control revealed that the extracts is highly potent anti-anaemic agent.
