High SUVmax Value of Ovarian Tubercular Mass: Conflict in Diagnosis
Journal Title: Journal of Academic Research in Medicine - Year 2020, Vol 10, Issue 1
Abstract
Abdomino-peritoneal tuberculosis is a commonly encountered infectious disease especially in endemic areas. Abdomino-peritoneal tuberculosis should be kept in mind in assessing patients with elevated blood CA125 levels, abdominal ascites and adnexal mass since these signs may indicate both advanced ovarian cancer and ovarian tuberculosis as a known dilemma. In the literature, standardized uptake values (SUV) of malignant ovarian tumors and inflammatory/infectious conditions of ovaries on Positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) scan have been demonstrated so far. In this case report, we present a 13-year-old female patient who was living in an endemic area for tuberculosis and complaining of abdominal distention and blunt abdominal and back pain, and whose F-18 Fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG)-PET scan revealed adnexal mass with avid FDG uptake with the SUVmax value of 16.6 which was highly suggestive for ovarian cancer.

The Diagnostic Value of Free Androgen Index in Obese Adolescent Females with Idiopathic Hirsutism and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
Objective: The free androgen index (FAI) is the ratio between total testosterone and sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG), and it has been proposed as a marker. FAI is increasingly used in the definitive diagnosis of pati...
Targeted Follow-up of Incidental Lung Nodules: Will the New Nodules in Unscanned Regions Be Missed?
Objective: Targeted computed tomography (TCT) scans a limited part or those parts of the lung with nodules that require follow-up. In order to apply targeted tomography safely, it is important to know the frequency of ne...
T-Tube Breakage During Removal: Management by Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography
T-tube drainage is a widely used procedure among surgeons for various biliary conditions. However, various complications may occur, especially due to the breaking-off of the T-tube from the area where it enters the commo...
Optimal Target in Deep Brain Stimulation for Parkinson’s Disease: Comparison of Atlas and Magnetic Resonance Imaging-based Stereotactic Targeting
Objective: We aimed to compare magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and atlas measurements to determine the target coordinates of globus pallidus internus (GPi) and subthalamic nucleus (STN) during stereotactic neurosurgery....
Comparison and Analyses of Intraoperative Consultation and Paraffin Section Responses of Ovarian Lesions
Objective: We aimed to analyze the sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive values (PPV) and negative predictive values (NPV) and the accuracy of frozen section (FS) method and compare the concordance of FS response...
