Hirudotherapy in medicine and cosmotology

Abstract
Hirudotherapy is a medical treatment taking advantage of the leeches. It has been used in natural medicine for a long time. The first notes of hirudotherapy are as old ad our civilization – leeches were used in ancient Egypt to remove “the rotten blood”. Recently, many active compounds in the salivary gland secretion of leeches ware identified. These invertebrates are used not only in alternative medicine, including dermatology, but also in the contemporary cosmetology. Nowadays, we are witness of the spectacular rebirth of this therapy.
