History of development and sport tradition on Slobozhanschina

Abstract
In the article some aspects of historical development of sport and sporting movement open up on Slobozhanschina which today includes Kharkov and Sumy region. During research a retrospective analysis, which enabled to trace traditions of separate kinds of sport, which was originated on terrains of eastern Ukraine at the high schools as early as in 19-th century is conducted and are being practiced up today, there being boxing, weight lifting, track-and-field, football, volley-ball, gymnastics, archery, etc. Research indicates that initially, due to private initiative the first sports societies which became basis of forming of modern Olympic movement were opened in the region.
