Homonyms as means of puns creation in “Memoirs of Mr. Charles J. Yellowplush” by William Thackeray and their translation

Abstract
The article deals with detailed analysis of “Memoirs of Mr. Charles J. Yellowplush” by William Thackeray concerning the functioning of homonyms in its wordplay constructions. Context, determining the use of wordplay, has been analyzed; the main types of homonyms, used as the understructure of puns, are defined; translation of certain episodes with homonymic wordplay is suggested.
