HYDROGEOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF PROSPECTION, EXPLORATION AND PRODUCTION OF SHALE GAS AND TIGHT GAS IN POLAND
Journal Title: Biuletyn Państwowego Instytutu Geologicznego - Year 2011, Vol 445, Issue 445
Abstract
This is an attempt to open the discussion on hydrogeological aspects of prospecting, exploration and possible future exploitation of unconventional gas deposits in Poland. Due to development of sophisticated (advanced) technology during the last 8 years, the significant progress in the field of natural gas exploitation from unconventional deposits has been made. There are strong geological premises that such deposits in Poland may be perspective which stirs up enthusiasm about possible gas production from domestic sources. Due to a very fast development of shale and tight gas exploitation technology especially in USA and Canada, people become more and more aware of water supply needs and environmental hazards of the process and hydrogeologists must get ready to give answers to many new questions. Environmental conditionality and environmental awareness of gas production process from unconventional sources, seems to be the key problem we will have to face in near future.

INFLUENCE OF PRECIPITATION AND INFILTRATION ON RECHARGE THE PALEOGENE AQUIFERS OF THE BESKID SĄDECKI FLYSCH
The paper describes research on the effect of precipitation and infiltration on the groundwater recharge of the Palaeogene aquifer. Since the safe yield in the Tylicz region is closely linked to the recharge regime, the...
Lithology and geological position of the Augustovian Interglacial deposits from Sucha Wieś (Ełk Lakeland) and Czarnucha (Augustów Plain)
In the Sucha Wieś and Czarnucha boreholes drilled in 1988–1989, interglacial lacustrine and fluvial organic and mineral deposits (Sucha Wieś – 31.1 m; Czarnucha – 32.1 m in thickness) were encountered in the basal porti...
HYDROGEOCHEMISTRY OF CO2 AQUIFER SEQUESTRATION – PRELIMINARY MODELLING AND EXPERIMENTAL EXAMINATIONS
The paper presents conclusions of modeling and experiments focused on assessment of hydrogeochemical effects of carbon dioxide sequestration in saline aquifers of the Upper Silesian Coal Basin (USCB). The relevant model...
The development and age of the karst in gypsum deposits of the Niecka Solecka (Solec Basin) area
A variety of types of karst forms has been identified in Neogene gypsum of the Niecka Solecka (Solec Basin), including large karstic-denudational depressions, karst (blind) valleys, sinkholes, and numerous but short and...
