HYGLASS: Design Proposal for an Integrated Multifunctional Hybrid Glass-Steel Structure
Journal Title: International Journal of Structural Glass and Advanced Materials Research - Year 2018, Vol 2, Issue 1
Abstract
Contemporary cities demand smart communication infrastructures to facilitate the interaction of residents and visitors with the urban environment. Such systems are required to be network-connected, interactive, environmental-sensitive and energetically self-sustaining. Moreover, in outdoor applications they should mark an urban focal point and should be able to satisfy additional public requirements like illumination, transmission of information etc. In the framework of a research program on post-tensioned glass-steel structures, the HYbrid GLAss-Steel Stele (HYGLASS) has been conceived to work, beyond its structural function, as interactive signage, digital totem or wayfinding and, gradually scaling its size, as smart landmark tower. The tetrahelical bearing structure is made of laminated glass panels, which collaborate with a filigree steel truss and embed in their interlayers miniaturized Information and Communications Technology, photovoltaic and lighting devices.

Infrared Thermography for the Characterization of Painted Vaults of Historic Masonry Buildings
The infrared thermography is a type of non-destructive investigation which can find interesting application in acquiring information about the structural features of ancient masonry buildings. In this case, in fact, the...
Construction Stage Analysis for a New Mixed Structure Building in Milan
In this study the Construction Stage Analysis (CSA) of a new mixed structure building is discussed in order to identify the best timing and execution activities scheduling. The building is part of a new university campus...
Reliability of Selected Critical Infrastructure Elements
The paper brings an overview of aspect of reliability of selected critical infrastructure elements. Firstly critical infrastructure elements are defined. Extreme loading of such elements and the normative standards are m...
Performance of Standard Statistical Distributions for Modeling Glass Fracture
Experimental data on the strength of new annealed float glass tested in an ambient environment was collected. A comparison was made between four standard distributions, the normal, lognormal, Gumbel and Weibull, with res...
Preparation of Porous Silicon P-Type and Thermal Diffusivity Measurement Using Photoacoustic Technique
Porous silicon (PSi) layers were formed on a p-type Si wafer. Electrochemical method was used to prepare 36 samples with three values of current density (10, 20 and 30) mA/cm2, each involved ( 20, 40, 60 and 80) min etch...
