ЯВИЩЕ ПЛЕОНАЗМУ В НЕХУДОЖНЬОМУ ПЕРЕКЛАДНОМУ ТЕКСТІ

Abstract
Tautology and pleonasm are undoubtedly strong expressive means in fiction, folklore, publicistic and colloquial styles. At the same time, in scientific or popular science publications, the compounds mentioned are inappropriate and fall into the category of stylistic errors. The relevance of the above study is determined by the high frequency of the occurence of pleonastic compounds in non-fiction texts, especially in translated scientific and popular scientific publications, of which the considered material has been particularly collected. The objective of the article is to examine pleonastic phrases as a kind of stylistic deviation; to show how they reduce the expressive quality of non-fiction text; to suggest the ways to their editing; to classify these expressions and to identify the causes of their occurrence in scientific and popular science texts. The article analyses frequently used pleonastic expressions in such texts at the stage of language editing. The groups of pleonastic compounds on the basis of grammatical-structural and lexical-word-building features are distinguished. On the basis of origin, the two groups of pleonastic compounds have been identified: conventional and authorial. From the grammatical-structural standpoint, the pleonastic word combinations (substantival, with the connection of the agreement, mainly two-component, and verbal, with the connection of adjoining and control, mainly two-component) and the pleonastic sentences have been distinguished. The lexical-word-building pleonastic compounds have been also found. The reasons for the occurence of pleonastic compounds in texts (consonant and educational), as well as the ways of editing of such stylistic peculiarities are indicated. The described material might supplement the list of pleonastic expressions available in dictionaries used for drawing up a different kind of training tasks on stylistics, as well as – in the long run – become a part of the planned dictionary of tautological and pleonastic expressions.
