IDEA OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IN THE OPINIONS AND ATTITUDES OF FARMERS

Abstract
The main aim of research was to assess the state of knowledge, opinions and attitudes of society towards the idea of sustainable development. Special attention was paid on a group of 39 farmers whose answers referred to the answers given by representatives of other professional groups. It examined how society understands the idea of sustainable development, of whether trying to apply it in everyday life and how sees the balance of development at different levels of aggregation. The main research tool was a questionnaire, which examined 214 respondents. The obtained results of research confirmed the authors’ assumption that the need of sustainability is deeply rooted among both farmers and society as a whole. However, the vast majority of respondents encountered in everyday life with sustainable development very rarely or not at all. Despite this, farmers and representatives of other professional groups rightly see themselves and the institutions of government and public administration as the main implementers of the rules of sustainable development.<br/><br/>
