Identification and profiling of high temperature responsive miRNAs in French bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L)
Journal Title: Journal of Applied Biology & Biotechnology - Year 2016, Vol 4, Issue 6
Abstract
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are group of small, non-coding RNAs that play important roles in plant growth, development and stress response. There have been an increasing number of investigations aimed at discovering miRNAs and analyzing their functions in model plants. In this study, we constructed high temperature stress induced small RNA libraries and characterized 26 potential miRNAs belonging to 21 families in French bean. A total of 140 annotated potential targets were found, of which majority were transcription factors (MYB, bHLH, GRF1, bZIP, NAC etc.,) which may play an important role in stress resistance. RT-qPCR and Northern blot analysis revealed differential expressions of candidate miRNAs and their target genes. The observed induction of miRNA expression is correlated with the down regulation of their targets. Investigation of gene ontology linked with targets of miRNAs forecasted their involvement in various biological functions. We anticipate the further studies may offer new avenues in developing stress tolerant variety of French bean.
Development of linear model for leaf area measurement of two medicinally important plants: Helicteres isora L. and Vitex negundo L.
Leaf area is an important parameter in physiological and agronomical studies. Linear models for leaf area measurement were developed for two plant species as a non destructive method. The leaves of Helicteres isora L. an...
Evaluation of salt tolerance ability in some fig (Ficus carica L.) cultivars using tissue culture technique
Ficus carica is one of the most important fruit species of Mediterranean countries. Egypt is one of the top countries in the world for the production of various cultivars of fig. The present work aimed to evaluate in vit...
Coleoptilar node - A season-independent explant source for in vitro culture in maize (Zea mays L.)
In vitro plant regeneration is preliminary requisite in the process of obtaining transgenic plants. Somatic embryogenesis is the most frequently used method of in vitro plant regeneration in maize. In this study, a relia...
Knowledge and Risk Factors Prevalence of Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs) in Nigeria: a case study of Adult population in Delta State
Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs) are the major causes of mortality and morbidity globally. Knowledge about NCDs and their risk factors are not only considered critical in NCDs prevention and management, but hold the pote...
Down-regulation of Id1 and Id3 genes affects growth and survival of Human Umbilical Vein Endothelial Cells (HUVECs)
Inhibitors of DNA (Id) proteins have been implicated in cell growth, cell cycle control, apoptosis and angiogenesis. Studies reveal that Id1 and Id3 may be required for angiogenesis in adult tissues. This work aimed at i...
