IDEOLOGY FACTOR IN ARCHITECTURE OF RAILWAY STATION BUILDINGS

Abstract

The influence of ideology in the sense of political and social aspirations on the formation of the architecture of railway stations as important public buildings is investigated. The applied compositional techniques in the subject-spatial construction of these buildings affect the creation of the image, and their territorial distribution creates a feeling of belonging to historical, political and cultural habitats. The factor of public ideology together with the others, accepted in the certain historical period, is a factor of the introduction of spatial, constructive and compositional-stylistic means and techniques in the architecture of the buildings of the railway stations. This is consonant with the rest of the public architecture. The following periods of formation of the buildings of railway stations were determined under the influence of ideological factors: the period of appearance of railways, the period of state centralization of railways, the period of authoritarian regimes, the period of the last decades. Spreading of compositional-stylistic types of buildings of railway stations along railway lines, certain areas and territories of lands and countries can be considered an expression of ideology, and, in particular, of state ideology. Most actively and most clearly, this ideology was reflected at the time of the existence of authoritarian regimes, when architecture became an effective means of ideological propaganda. The idea of national consolidation is felt in the architecture of the buildings of railway stations in Ukraine in the early 20th century. In modern times, there are separate attempts to use national and local motives. The plastic-spatial methods of architecture of the buildings of the railway stations encourage the feeling of the involvement of a particular place to a certain region. Separate objects, lines, networks and regions fix affiliation to the time and spatial fields that may have a national, political and ideological content. The architecture of buildings of railway stations vibrantly and dynamically reacts to social changes, consolidating the ideological vision of society in the composition of space-plastic forms through an artistic idea. The versatility of the perception of these forms enriches the understanding of the work of art, deserves its support and development.
