IDIOSYNCRACIES OF KARACHAY-MALKAR TURKISH AND ITS PLACE IN KIPCHAK DIALECTS

Abstract

Karachay-Malkar Turkish people are one of the Turkish originated community who has have been living in highlands in the east and west side of the Mount Elbrus in the Caucasus for centuries. There are different views about how they come Caucasus region and their entity. In present, Karachay-Malkar Turkish people densely live in Karachay-Cherkess and Kabardino-Balkar Republics in Russia, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Kirghizstan, Uzbekistan and USA. According to its outlines, the language of Karachay-Malkar people is a Kipchak dialect. They call themselves Tawlu and their languages Tawça. Karachay-Malkar Turkish is in the west Kipchak branch of the northwest group with Kumuk, Tatar, Karai and Crimea dialects. It is similar to the other Kipchak languages but at the same time, it has some features different from the other dialects. In this article, we will discuss the morphological idiosyncracies of Karachay-Malkar language which differ it from the other Kipchak dialects.
